EVO TT CUP III - "THE ISLE OF MAN" - 2nd STAGE - WARM UP!

Mensagem  Trial the Echidna em Sex Jun 19, 2009 9:40 pm

Hello Riders! Here we are again starting the works for 2nd stage! On this warm up we will tell the starting of The Isle of Man's history and we will announce the bike and track of 2nd stage, that promise to have smaller differences of time between the riders, increasing the challenge. Let´s go to the "cultural moment of the stage:

In 1906, at a commemorative dinner in a English club, Auto Cycle Union, the idea of a long motorcycle event and on roads. How it wasn´t allowed on Great Britain, the race would be done in a Ireland Sea Island, where had ferryboat crossing.

Isle of Man, Ireland

This was the Isle of Man. The idea received all support from the independent government of the Island, that already had a international motoring event!

The “official” circuit of the event is called Mountain Circuit, with 60.739km of extension. For the small bikes of the era, was created a smaller circuit, called by St. John, with only 25km. For the first race, the regulation was: Tourist Bikes, with two brakes, silencer, tool box and a single seat. Was created two categories: bikes of 1 cylinder with consumption of 33km/l and bikes of 2 cylinder with minimum consumption of 25km/l. On the rest was allowed anything, since weight, CC, etc.

In May, 28th, 1907, happened the first Tourist Trophy.

The event had 10 laps, with 250km, and was wined, on 1 cylinder category, by Charles collier, with a Matchless (was the owner of the factory) opening a gap of more than 10 minutes on the 2nd and 3rd positions, that ran with Triumph.

The 2 cylinder category was wined by Rem Fowler, with a Norton equipped with Peugeot engine, even with many falls, flat tire and another adventures, finish with 30 minutes of gap. Their average was of 69km/h!

The race was against the clock, i.e., won who make the route of 10 laps in less time. The event was of the rider and your bike against the road! The starting was in couples. There wasn´t race strategy and laggards. The opponents of each one were the holes, walls, thin and dusty roads!

Couple Starting

Without counting with the weather of the island, which was wet and cold. On the middle of the race the rider could find a rapid and dense fog, a light and cold rain and after sun again!

Already in 1909, the race had a average of 79km/h won by Harry Collier (Charles’ Brother), with a Matchless. Already didn´t had the split categories.

WARM UP!
Now who want to "warm for this stage" will know the track and the bike. How I said at the starting, the track will favor smaller differences of time, because the track is more extense, with a bike that are almost the same of the previous stage.

REMEMBERING THAT THE PARTICIPATION ON WARM UP IS FREE AND DON´T WORTH SCORE FOR THE STAGE. How doesn´t worth score, you can go to the track with any uniform. Who want to participate can run in Arcade Mode, Time Trial and send your ghost until SUNDAY, June 21, 2009, until 20:00, Brazillian time. The addres to send the times and ghost saves is gtspace@live.com .

Thank you all and good laps!

This theme is a championship, a competition that honors centenary, as we are telling the story of the early years, it is normal for bikes that used the first appearance of evidence are older but do not worry: after half of the championship we have more bikes rapid, and many different forms and speed range. Do not know why you're complaining because great drivers as you are well in any conditions.
